I was at his graduation speech at Stanford and it was chilling, despite it being such a hot day in 2005 - Iittle did I know how much those words would echo - so simple and yet so profound - in the 6 years after. As a therapist and self-help author, i can not overstate how many times I have used his points to help my clients and used them in my writing. these words and concepts that were brilliantly simple. His three major points have been a guide for me since that hot California day.
The themes were:

Connecting the dots in your life - somethings make sense only in retrospect
Success after failure - you can have life after loss
Using the specter of death to live your life. = living every day as your last.

It is chilling how visionary even these words were - he has changed lives not only in the way we use technology, music and film, but in our minds, views and outlook on life itself.

We are in the "Mac" camp, http://bit.ly/p8MHe1
but I love your PC prospective ; ) And you're right...the only thing worse would be not to learn from the trail he blazed. Obviously there has been much said about him in the past 24 hours, but the one thing that has stayed with me is his view that the best way to live life is to recognize the inevitability of death (something to that effect). As Judy says above, live each day as your last. It's not a new concept, but the way Steve Jobs presented it was new. And had a deeper impact, I think.
Great Post Kevin...thanks for sharing.

Thanks Judy and Beth. I appreciate your comments.

Steve Jobs genius was profound. I've oftentimes argued that the invention of the iPhone/iPod touch ranks right up there with the automobile in terms of its affect on how we go about our day.
